Questions we get asked

Straight answers

Do I need an accountant if I'm self-employed?

You're not legally required to have one — but a good accountant typically recovers their fee in properly-claimed expenses and avoided penalties, and from April 2026 Making Tax Digital adds quarterly filings that are far easier with software and support. Our packages start at £19 + VAT a month.

How much do you charge?

Fixed monthly packages at £19, £39 or £69 + VAT depending on complexity — your Self Assessment and FreeAgent software (worth up to £330 a year) are included in all of them. The exact package is confirmed in writing before you pay anything.

I freelance alongside a PAYE job. Can you help?

Yes — mixing employment and self-employment is one of our most common client situations. We make sure your PAYE tax is credited correctly, the £1,000 trading allowance is used when it helps, and you only file what's actually needed.

Do you handle IR35 and limited company contracting?

Yes. We advise on status, help you read contracts, and if a limited company is the right structure the wider Buzz family handles it end to end.

What's Making Tax Digital and am I in it?

Since April 2026, self-employed people with gross qualifying income over £50,000 must keep digital records and file quarterly updates (over £30,000 from 2027, £20,000 from 2028). Every package we sell includes MTD filing through FreeAgent.

Can you sort my late or first-ever tax return?

Yes — first returns, late returns, several years behind: all fixable, no lectures. We tidy the past and set up a system so it never happens again.

No jargon. No fluff.
